Sugarcon Day 2, Re-cap of Paul Greenberg’s Keynote on Social CRM
Share |

Instead of covering all the sessions I attended I’m going to focus this post on Paul’s’ keynote on social CRM because I believe there was a lot of valuable information and content that he presented.  As I did with my recap of the first day of Sugarcon, my notes are in an easy to ready bullet style format.  Let’s get to it.

  • One of the biggest problems in the social CRM space is the definition.  It’s time to move beyond that and start talking about what needs to be done and how to do it, instead of what to call it.
  • We live in a customer ecosystem not a business ecosystem.  Social customers don’t run your business, they run how they want to interact with you.
  • What’s going on is a social communications revolution not  a business revolution.
  • Social customers are other people just like “you”
  • 74% of all the people on the internet are tied to a social network (massive number)
  • The social customer demands that you have to be like them in terms of their social interactions.
  • Each customer wants a personalized experiences which makes social CRM a challenge, what do you do?
    • give customers the tools to make their own experience
    • give customers information that allows them to make informed empowering choices and thus provide value.
    • you must understand how customers interact with you at every point and in every channel.
  • CRM is no longer a model for managing customers but one of customer engagement.
  • The value of any product is in the job that it does and not in the product itself.

    Introducing Open Site Explorer
    Share |

I attended SEOmoz’s Open Site Explorer (OSE) webinar last Thursday, January 28, and learned some things on how to make the most of the new link analysis tool.

If you’ve been using Linkscape you’re probably pretty happy with the functionalities that the service brings. At first glance it might seem that another link analysis tool would just be redundant and, for the most part, that is actually true. However, if you look at the table below you will see that there are some things that Open Site Explorer can give that Linkscape doesn’t really do and vice versa.

One of the major differences is obviously the number of links available per report. Note though that unless you are a SEOmoz Pro member you will only be shown details of 5 links in OSE and none in Linkscape. However, you do see the other important metrics such as overall page authority, domain authority, number of linking root domains, and total number of links including those that are “no followed”. These data are things you need to know where you stand in your link building effort, but it’s really the other data that gives you more actionable items.

According to Rand some of the things you can do with the data given by OSE include finding the following:

    • 302 pages - What you can do is them into 301s
    • 404 pages - You have to options for these pages: either put content in those pages or redirect them.
    • Inbound links with low quality anchor text - Contact the owner of the linking page and ask them to change the anchor text to something you prefer.
    • Links to competitors’ error pages - Don’t forget to analyze your competitors’ links. D/> [...]

Facebook And Twitter Becoming More Important For Job Recruitment
      Share |

Social networks lead all other recruiting channels for planned investment by employers as the economy rebounds, according to a new survey by recruitment platform Jobvite.

The survey found 83 percent of respondents use or plan to use social networks for recruiting this year. LinkedIn (78%), Facebook (55%) and Twitter (45%) are the most popular social recruiting platforms, while MySpace is used by 5 percent of respondents.

"While the economy begins to recover, companies looking to make new hires are seeking the most cost-effective, efficient ways to find new talent. As our third annual survey shows, social network recruiting has become a mainstream channel for employers who need access to talent," said Dan Finnigan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jobvite.

"Job boards launched a revolution in recruiting more than 15 years ago. And now, social networks are doing the same -- but in a targeted way. Through social recruiting, companies are learning they can find the best talent efficiently, without making a major investment."

Other highlights from the survey include:

*92 percent of those actively hiring in 2010 currently use or plan to recruit via social networks

*Among this group, 86 percent use LinkedIn, 60 percent use Facebook and 50 percent use Twitter for recruiting

I spend a lot of time with clients and one thing keeps coming up again and again. Most of my clients sell offline, but they have no idea how to track those sales back to their Web site. Sometimes, I wonder of the whole issue seems so difficult that they feel like giving up. My advice don't. If this is happening to you, check out my latest post on Search Engine Guide, "Are You Undervaluing Your Web Site?"
